Should I Replace My Water Heater This Winter?

Suddenly finding yourself without hot water in the middle of winter is not something you probably want. If your water heater is not up to the task of providing you with hot water through one more winter, you should replace it now before it fails completely. If you’re not sure whether or not your water heater is in need of replacement, read on for some ways to tell.

Loss of Output

If you put your water heater under enough demand for a long enough period of time, you’re going to eventually exhaust it and have to wait for it to heat more water. However, the older the water heater gets, the more efficiency it’s going to lose to wear and tear.  If your water heater seems to be struggling to cope with even a normal amount of demand, it might be time to replace it.

Repair Issues

All water heaters need repairs every now and again. However, older water heaters are going to be more prone to breaking down. If you need to have your water heater repaired multiple times a year, it’s a good indication that your system is breaking down permanently. It’s better to just replace the entire system than to keep repairing it over and over again.

Age

Water heaters are manufactured to last right around 10-15 years. Once they get older than that, they start to develop all kinds of issues like those listed above. If your water heater is older than 15 years, it’s a good idea to have a professional examine it to make sure it’s still in good shape. If not, they can recommend a replacement.
