5 Things to Check before Calling a HVAC Technican

As your leading service provider in the  area, we specialize in a wide range of air conditioning services during the summer. It’s one of our busiest times of year in Mountain Brook. While we’re more than happy to take care of any problems with your HVAC system, there are some things to keep in mind before you pick up the phone. Here’s a short list:

1. Does your home have power?

So long as your electricity bill has been paid recently, a power problem could be an issue to do with the circuit breaker as well. Make sure that you know where yours is and which part controls the HVAC system. Have a quick look before calling for service.

2. Is your thermostat adjusted and/or on?

The thermostat is one of the most critical components of any HVAC system. Yours needs to be properly adjusted at various points in the year. For example, you’ll need to double-check that it’s not adjusted to “Heat” during the summer or “Cool” during the winter.

3. Is your air filter dirty?

If you find that your air filter is clogged and filled with debris, then it’s impeding your HVAC system. Make sure to switch out the filter on a regular basis, or you can hire a technician to do it for you during a routine service call.

4. Do you see water near your indoor unit?

If so, then your condensate drain pan is overflowing. Your AC cools your air by dehumidifying it, and this means that the water vapor in the air is removed by condensation. Sometimes, the drain line gets clogged, and this can lead to water spilling onto the ground near the unit.

5. Are any doors or windows open?

Check the garage too, if it’s attached to the main home. If it feels like your AC is blasting but there is a lack of cooling, it could just be an open door or window.
